Arts Ability Uganda is a Centre for creativity which was established to offer impoverished and homeless PWDs the opportunity to learn how to produce quality arts and craft products which are collectively sold to provide economic stability, a purpose in life whilst also advocating disability rights and awareness.
Arts Ability Uganda have also produced projects to raise awareness of PWDs on the streets of Kampala. For KLA ART 014: Kampala Contemporary Art Festival they modified a motorbike taxi (locally known as a bodaboda) to include a side seat for PWDs and for LaBa Street Art Festival they transformed a tricycle into a brightly painted car.

AAU believes in the power of our environment in providing human life with shelter, food, water among others. Due to different human activities, our environment is being destroyed through poor disposal, cutting of trees for human income generation activities like charcoal burning among others. Therefore, in order to restore our environment AAU started a recycling community project which aims at putting poorly disposed materials into arts.
AAU and the community members recycles bottles into glasses for drinking, glass beads for jewelry making. We also recycle wasted papers, elephant grass and banana fibers into recycled papers which we use to make photo albums, cards, paper bags, paintings and many more.
This is a common question we always ask other individuals to find out if they understand us and it is common that if they do, they will mention only our names and we get contented that they understand who we are. Even ourselves we think who we are ends on names yet there is a lot beyond names that we have to understand before we may think we know ourselves.
"Ninze Ani?" is a Lusoga ward meaning who am I? This is a project which offers artists with disabilities an opportunity to discover themselves to be able to understand and answer the question who am I? With confidence. There are so many aspects to be known that elaborate who am I but in this context we are focusing on arts and how we express ourselves in different art themes.
This is a project which supports visual artists from different arts disciplines through residence program at AAU to work on their own with support in terms of idea development through brainstorming and critics from the cultural program officer, AAU team members and external Curators to enable them discover and understand the potentials within themselves beyond a mare knowing of their names.
